In the heart of western Sicily, 40 km from Trapani, the park preserves one of the best-preserved Doric temples in the Mediterranean and a theatre overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare. Founded by the Elymians, a pre-Greek people, Segesta was allied with Athens and rivalled Selinunte.

36 colonne (6 sul lato corto, 14 sul lato lungo), alte 10 metri. Il tempio non è mai stato completato: mancano il tetto, la cella interna e la pavimentazione. Non si sa con certezza a quale divinità fosse dedicato, ma nel 2020 è stata scoperta un'epigrafe dedicata ad Afrodite Urania.
Il tempio è uno dei meglio conservati del mondo antico nonostante la sua incompletezza. Le colonne non sono state scanalate — segno che i lavori si interruppero prima della rifinitura finale.
Goethe lo descrisse nel “Viaggio in Italia” (1787): “al sommo d'una vallata larga e lunga, in vetta a un colle isolato e tuttavia circondato da dirupi, esso domina una vasta prospettiva di terre.”

36 columns (6 on the short side, 14 on the long side), 10 metres tall. The temple was never completed: it lacks a roof, an inner cella, and flooring. The deity to whom it was dedicated remains uncertain, but in 2020 an inscription dedicated to Aphrodite Urania was discovered.
The temple is one of the best preserved in the ancient world despite being unfinished. The columns were never fluted — a sign that work stopped before the final detailing.
Goethe described it in his “Italian Journey” (1787): “at the top of a wide, long valley, on the summit of an isolated hill yet surrounded by cliffs, it commands a vast prospect of land.”

Scavato nella roccia del Monte Barbaro, il teatro è orientato verso il Golfo di Castellammare — la vista sul mare dalla cavea è parte integrante dello spettacolo. Ancora oggi viene usato per il Segesta Teatro Festival estivo.
Raggiungibile in navetta (€2 A/R dalla biglietteria, ogni 30 minuti) o a piedi salendo il monte. La salita a piedi è impegnativa in estate con il caldo.

Carved into the rock of Monte Barbaro, the theatre faces the Gulf of Castellammare — the sea view from the cavea is an integral part of the spectacle. It is still used today for the summer Segesta Teatro Festival.
Reachable by shuttle (€2 return from the ticket office, every 30 minutes) or on foot up the hill. The walk is demanding in summer heat.
During the summer festival, theatre visits are only allowed until 17:30 for show preparation. After 17:30, reduced entry €5 for the Temple only.

Tra il Tempio e il Teatro si estendeva l'antica città di Segesta. Gli scavi, ancora in corso e condotti dalla Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, hanno portato alla luce:
- Bouleuterion: l'edificio dove si riuniva il consiglio cittadino
- Agorà: la piazza pubblica della città antica
- Resti medievali: tracce dell'insediamento arabo e normanno
- Castello normanno: sulla cima del Monte Barbaro
- Abitato rupestre: strutture scavate nella roccia

Between the Temple and the Theatre lay the ancient city of Segesta. Excavations, still ongoing and led by the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, have uncovered:
- Bouleuterion: the building where the city council met
- Agora: the public square of the ancient city
- Medieval remains: traces of Arab and Norman settlement
- Norman castle: on the summit of Monte Barbaro
- Rock-cut dwellings: structures carved into the cliff face
